BRAND GUIDE

The origin of Ethical Gold

On the one hand, the newly mined gold comes from small, artisanal mines that are members of the Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) and are therefore Fairtrade and Fairminded. On the other hand, Chopard obtains its gold from RJC-certified refinery partners who offer RJC - Chain of Custody - Gold.

Since Chopard produces its pieces in-house, it can be guaranteed that all processes and materials used meet the standards mentioned.

What does Chopard support with its ethical gold?

With its ethical gold, Chopard wants to show that luxury can also be sustainable. Chopard is supporting an initiative that, as part of the so-called “Journey to Responsible Luxury”, helps responsible gold mines in Latin America on their way to Fairmined certification. That means for the gold mines:

  • Comply with strict work regulations
  • No Child labor
  • Comply with social development standards
  • Environmental criteria for gold mining comply

Thanks to the help of Chopard, many small mines were able to receive this certificate and have been supplying the luxury brand with their ethical gold ever since. There should be even more in the future.

At Chopard, for example, ethical gold is used in LUC watches and in the Haute Joaillerie collections, i.e. particularly fine jewelry set with precious stones.
