Plea for Sustainable Architecture
There is also some lasting news from the world of cinema in October. The new documentary "Architecture" by renowned director Victor Kossakovsky portrays the disillusioned architect Michele De Lucchi and his attempt to defy the "ruthless war of man against nature". In stunning nature shots, the film follows the life cycle of stones, which begins in nature and ends in the garbage dump. While modern buildings collapse in wars and natural disasters, ancient ruins remind us of a stability and aesthetic that seems to have been lost. Kossakovsky poses the provocative question of what the people of the next civilization will find of our time. "Architecture" condenses possible answers to this into an intense, visually overwhelming cinema experience. This lets us feel the fragile structures of the world up close. The film is a great plea for sustainable architecture and the search for a new understanding of beauty that can show us a way out of the labyrinth of concrete.

Innovative textiles with heat protection
Heatwaves are becoming more and more common due to climate change. Cooling textiles that can be integrated into clothing and even building surfaces offer a future-oriented solution. The approach is to make energy-intensive air conditioning systems in our cities obsolete. A team of international researchers from Zhengzhou University and the University of South Australia has developed a natural fabric that city dwellers can wear to combat the rising temperatures caused by buildings, asphalt and concrete in cities The fabric is designed to block the sun's rays. It consists of three layers that are engineered to provide optimal cooling. The top layer made of polymethylpentene fibers allows for effective heat radiation. The middle layer made of silver nanowire increases the reflectivity of the fabric and prevents additional heat from reaching the body. The bottom wool layer draws heat away from the body and ensures that wearers stay cool in hot temperatures.
