To start the autumn there is again a lot of exciting news about sustainability. From ecological fashion and innovative materials to new events and research projects that all work towards a greener future - the month shows how diverse and creative the path to greater environmental awareness can be. Here we have put together 10 sustainable news for you in September.

Stylish exhibition in London
From 14 September 2024 to August 2025, the Design Museum in London with the exhibition "Tomorrow's Wardrobe", how sustainable fashion can shape the future. Designers like Stella McCartney, Ahluwalia and Phoebe English present innovative approaches to making the fashion industry more environmentally friendly. The exhibition highlights the path from textile production to the design process and focuses on solutions such as Upcycling, Recycling, Artificial intelligence and regenerative materialsIt is part of the research program "Future Observatory", which supports the green transformation in the fashion world. Admission is free.

Sustainable news in September from Copenhagen
The Danish interior brand Normann Copenhagen has obtained FSCTM certification and relies on sustainable forestry and FSC certified woodThe company aims to protect biodiversity, support local communities and reduce its own ecological footprint. The brand, which has stood for innovative design since 1999, also pursues a sustainable approach through circular economy and the use of innovative materials.

Stylish cooperation
Stronger together: The Spanish B Corp Brand TWOTHIRDS and the US label STAN Clothing have joined forces for a limited men’s collection. Both companies are Zero-waste practices and the use of environmentally friendly waste materials. The highlight of the limited edition are six handmade jackets. These were sewn from French grain sacks from the 18th century. Each jacket is unique and has its own story, which is told on the inside label in handwriting by Tristan Detwiler, the founder and head designer of STAN Clothing. The collection is complemented by shirts, trousers and T-shirts made from sustainable materials such as linen, Tencel, Lyocell and organic cotton.

Top cuisine meets consciousness: The restaurant crossing am Tegernsee announces sustainable news in September and starts with a new concept under the direction of top chef Cornelia Fischer. The focus is on sustainability: Regional products, some of which are home-grown, characterize the menus, which vary between vegetarian and meat-based options. The kitchen combines local ingredients with global flavors and relies on resource-saving production. This is to be expanded in the coming year with the addition of its own greenhouse.

Also from the luxury hotel chain Melia Hotels International There is sustainable news in September. Meliá is committed to sustainable tourism across 40 countries. Sustainability in the hotel industry and now receives the prestigious Ecostars certification, recognized by the UNWTO and the GSTC. The assessment includes energy consumption, CO2 emissions, waste management and the reduction of single-use plastic. A prime example is the Meliá Frankfurt City, which impresses with geothermal energy, its own sewage treatment plant and an energy-efficient elevator system. With these and similar measures, Mélia manages to integrate innovative, sustainable solutions into its global hotel network.

On September 21, 2024, the “International Vegan Rights Conference 2024” will stop in Copenhagen. The one-day event by The vegan society will take place in the Common Hall of the Danish Parliament in Copenhagen. The occasion is a groundbreaking court ruling from February 2024, which vegan lifestyle under Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The conference will cover various aspects of legal protection for vegans in Europe and beyond, including the challenges vegans face and the effectiveness of political lobbying. Speakers include leading experts from Germany, Switzerland, Canada and Denmark.

Open Lab to promote the circular economy
Collaboration for a sustainable future: H&M and the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) have Open Labs opened, an initiative to improve sustainable practices in the textile and fashion industry. The Open Lab, located in the Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Tseung Kwan O InnoPark, will serve as a central research and development platform for innovative, scalable solutions. Covering 6.000 square metres, the lab houses an upcycling facility and the Fashion Future Laboratory, where textile innovations will be developed. The aim is to transfer laboratory technologies into industrial applications and thus promote the circular economy in the industry.

Eco-friendly gemstones
The jewelry label Fejn Jewelry shows what sustainable luxury can look like by integrating ethical and environmentally friendly practices into jewelry production. The brand is now launching a jewelry line with laboratory-grown emeralds for the first time. These emeralds, which are set in high-quality 14k real gold, offer the same chemical composition and crystal structure as their natural counterparts. The difference lies in the environmentally conscious production: They are produced in laboratories with a significantly lower environmental impact, without the ecological footprint and often exploitative working conditions of traditional mining.
