Fashion x Craft - the funding project for young fashion designers

The Fashion Council Germany eV creates new paths in the German fashion and design landscape for a visionary, technological and sustainable future. The Fireside Chat, which they founded in 2018, regularly brings decision-makers together to create a network and exchange knowledge, information and thoughts.

The Fashion Council has set itself the task of promoting innovative thinking and sustainable materials. A challenge that is essential to strengthen a positive future of our fashion industry. In the course of the first Fireside Chat of this year, the winners of the new educational program were announced during Berlin Fashion Week FashionxCraft presented. A grant program created in partnership with the Swarovski Foundation and The Prince's Foundation. To bring young designers closer to innovative thinking and sustainable methods and materials. The focus here is on traditional craftsmanship, which enables designers to develop their practice in new ways. Rather, it is about traditional techniques such as basket weaving, decorative plaster work, but also wood carving is part of it.

Eight winners were selected from numerous applications and will receive a tailor-made support program in the coming months. This includes a series of 12 webinars and a three-day intensive workshop on circular economy and best practices in Berlin. The project also includes a three week residency at the Princes Foundation's new educational facility at Highgrove, part of the estate of HRH The Prince of Wales, Gloucestershire England.

The winners have the opportunity to present what they have learned and their experiences to the public during the Berlin Fashion Week in September. For this purpose, two looks per winner are to be exhibited at the industry meeting in the entrance area of ​​the Hotel Zoo. The respective designer is also presented with a brief description.
