German Design Award 2022 for future-oriented solutions
The winners of the internationally renowned German Design Award 2022 have been announced. To mark the 10th anniversary, the German Design Council awards the prize for innovative and pioneering projects and products. Awarded in the areas of "Excellent Product Design", "Excellent Communications Design" and "Excellent Architecture", in order to point out outstanding concepts and talents.
In this context, sustainability plays a central role, which is reflected in the choice of winners. In addition, five finalists have been nominated for the young talent award. The German Design Award will be presented in February 2022 in Frankfurt am Main, where, among other things, the winner of the Newcomer Prize will be announced.
The German Design Council, headed by Lutz Dietzold, the German competence center for Brand, design and innovation, with the German Design Award for future-oriented solutions. On the one hand, they pursue the intention to reward new, sustainable or courageous ideas and, on the other hand, it gives the industry the chance to orientate itself on current trends and top performances.
Focus topic: "Wicked Problem" environment
For the anniversary, participation also ran under the motto “How designers think”. In this way, the focus is on openness, visions and innovations. The focus topic is inspired by the progressive designer Horst Rittel, who dealt with so-called "wicked problems" in the 60s.
This means questions that are subject to incomplete, contradicting and changing requirements and that seem difficult or even impossible to solve. The industry has to face these challenges again and again, especially when it comes to things Sustainability. That is why the German Design Award offers an ideal platform for showing new approaches and stimulating innovative ideas.
Eco design winners prove innovation
In addition to the “Special Mention” and “Winner” awards, the independent jury also awarded the highest recognition “Gold” 60 times in 81 categories. The founders and designers Leonhard Berger and Sascha Kleczka convinced with their clear, durable design of sustainable furniture. Partner Initiative New European Bauhaus
With the initiative New European Bauhaus the EU promotes a sustainable and inclusive future. It is about designing future living spaces and addressing current social issues. The aim of the European Green Deal to be climate neutral by 2050 is taken as the central starting point. As part of the German Design Award 2022, a jury evaluates all projects that respond to the New European Bauhaus. Promising projects are then submitted to the initiative's committee with a recommendation.
